Abstract

The exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine flow through the pipe (A) into the cylindrical chamber (B) with a swirling motion. This swirling motion reduces the pressure of the gases and assists the flow from the engine. The gases flow through holes in the tube (C) and flow out in an axial direction into a rectangular box (E) with a large number of rectangular slots. Atmospheric air flows through these slots cooling and mixing with, the exhaust gases. This causes the exhaust gases to contact and reduces the noise of impact with the atmosphere. Pollution is reduced by admitting air through the pipe (F) to ensure complete combustion of any unburnt gas in the chamber (B).
