717,880. Exhaust-gas ejectors. SMITH, A Sept. 11. 1953 [June 13, 1952], No. 14930/52. Class 7(2) A tube 1 for connection to an exhaust pipe is surrounded by a frusto-conical member 3 the larger end of which faces in the direction of motion of a vehicle to which the device is fitted and the smaller end of which is located opposite the rear end of the tube 1 so that the annular clearance 5 thus produced combined with the flow of air through the member 3 causes an ejector or Venturi effect on the exhaust gases. The member 3 is supported by fins or ribs 2 which extend 'substantially in planes passing through the longitudinal axis of the device. A cylindrical extension 4 having an internal diameter greater than the external diameter of the tube 1 may be fitted to the rear end of the member 3. In a modification, the rear end of the member 3 extends beyond the end of the tube 1.
