755,209. Exhaust silencers and ejectors. STRAUSCHEID, H., and SCHATTERGAN, J. Dec. 28, 1954 [Dec. 28, 1953; Sept. 22, 1954], No. 37475/54. Class 7(2) A funnel-shaped air-scoop member 27, Fig. 5, having free-edged open ends, surrounds a motor vehicle exhaust pipe or exhaust pipe extension 23 the end 26 of which extends rearwardly beyond the small end 29 of the member 27. Transverse or longitudinal cooling ribs 25 supporting the member 27 are provided and the extension 23 has cut-outs 31 allowing the air and exhaust to mingle. In Fig. 3, the air-scoop member 15 is a plain cone of elongated cross-section, supported on the extension 13, at its large end by struts 18 and at its small end by radial struts. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the exhaust pipe itself projects through an air-scoop cone of circular section and supported on a further pipe located with slight spacing on the exhaust pipe.
