870,112. Disposing of exhaust gases in motor vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. March 29, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 11049/60. Class 79(3). An exhaust pipe of a motor vehicle, e.g. a motor bus, which is taken upwardly out of the vehicle, is characterized in that, after leaving the silencer, 6, the exhaust pipe 8 projects into an extension 10 which may have a flared entry portion 9, to provide an ejector-like arrangement and the extension portion is surrounded by an air duct 12. The engine 2 may be at the rear of the vehicle and the engine compartment may be maintained under pressure by a cooling fan 15. The duct 12 extends from within the engine compartment to outside the vehicle. In a modification, Fig. 2, the lower end of the air duct 12 is bent and fitted with a fan 18.
