Engines working on special systems or cycles. -In a steam power plant in which exhaust steam from an engine 3 is partially condensed in a condenser 5 and a pump 6 returns a mixture of steam and water from the condenser to the water space of the boiler 7, the mixture is heated on its way to the boiler in a heater 1 by the exhaust steam in its passage to the condenser. The U-shaped steam tubes 12 in the condenser open into chambers separated by a partition 13 having a by-pass aperture controlled by a valve 25 which is operated by a diaphragm acted upon by the pressure in the exhaust pipe. Air for the boiler furnace is drawn by a fan 19 around U-shaped tubes 11 in a preheater 4. Specification 271,928 is referred to.
