Class 122 (3) In a steam power installation the condenser for the exhaust from a steam turbine isi'tnterposed in a closed cooling water circutating system incorporating heat exchangers which are also incorporated in a closed gas circulating system whereby the cooling water gives up heat to the gas which is utilized to reheat the condenser condensate in a reheat boiler by the gas after its pressure and temperature have been raised by a compressor driven by an engine operated by the gas leaving the reheat boiler, the compressor, boiler and engine being interposed in the closed gas circulating system. Steam supplied from a boiler 1 to a turbine 2 is exhausted into a water tube condenser 3 and the condensate is returned by a feed pump 11 through a heat exchanger 13 and a reheat boiler 7 to the boiler 1. Cooling water for the condenser 3 is circulated by a pump 4 in a closed system incorporating a primary heat exchanger 5 and a secondary heat exchanger 10 which heat exchangers also form part of a closed gas system. Gas heated in the primary heat exchanger 5 is compressed in a compressor 6 and delivered, after giving up some of its heat to preheat the condensate in heat exchanger 13, to the reheat boiler 7 to heat the condensate. The gas leaving the reheat boiler is utilized to operate the compressor engine 9 and exhausted to the secondary heat exchanger 10 where it receives heat from the circulating water before returning to the primary heat exchanger 5.
