Class 110(iii) In a combined steam turbine and gas turbine plant employing a cooled compressor of the kind in which the heat of the gas turbine exhaust gases is at least partly transferred to the combustion air for the steam generating plant and in which the feed water is partly preheated by steam tapped from the steam turbine, the compressed air from the cooled compressor is used for cooling the combustion gases from the steam generator. Air compressed in the compressor 11 is first heated by the stack gases in a preheater 1, further heated in an exhaust gas heat exchanger 12 and finally heated in an air heater 13 by combustion gases leaving the steam generator furnace 2. The heated air is then expanded in a turbine 14 the exhaust of which after passing through the heat exchanger 12 is used as combustion air in the furnace 2. The steam generated in the evaporator 3 is superheated in the superheater 4 and expanded in the turbine 6. The feed water from the condenser 7 is first used to cool the compressor 11 and then further heated in the tapped steam feed water preheaters 81, 82, 83, 84 before passing through an economiser 5 to the evaporator 3. The feed water may also be heated by the,compressed air leaving the compressor in an after-cooler (not shown). If desired, the preheater 1 may be adapted to heat the combustion air when the gas turbine is not in operation. The heater 13 may be replaced by a combustion chamber.
