Abstract

656,102. Turbine power plant; power generating system. KLUGE, F. Aug. 24, 1948, No. 22305. [Classes 110(iii) and 122(iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a combined gas and steam turbine plant comprising a gas turbine fed by a combustion chamber to which air is supplied by a compressor and a boiler arranged to cool the combustion chamber supplying steam to a turbine which exhausts to a condenser, a heat exchanger is provided to effect coincident cooling of the compressor of the compressor and preheating of the fuel supplied to the combustion chamber. The plant shown comprises a compressor C, a gas turbine A and a steam turbine B mounted on a common shaft E. The combustion chamber F which feeds the gas turbine A through the line 1 is supplied with fuel through the line 3 and with air from the compressor C through the line 4. Steam is supplied to the turbine B by a boiler element 5, which may include a superheater portion 6, arranged to cool the combustion chamber F. The steam turbine exhausts to a condenser G the condensate from which is returned to the boiler element 5 through heat exchangers H and 15. The heat exchanger H is heated by the turbine exhaust gases and the heat exchanger 15 by the air during its compression in the compressor C. The heat exchanger H includes a portion Ha, wherein the condensate passing through the line 9 is heated to the same extent as that passing through the exchanger 15. The whole of the condensate is heated in the exchanger portion Hb. The fuel is preheated by the air during its compression in heat exchanger coils 18. According to the Provisional Specification the turbine exhaust gases may be used to preheat either the fuel or the air entering the combustion chamber or both.
