Abstract
637,821. Gas turbine plant. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 12, 1947, No. 22358. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1946. [Class 110(iii)] In a gas turbine-driven locomotive in which a part or the whole of the exhaust gases from the turbine are used as combustion air.in the furnace of a train-heating boiler, the gases are cooled in a heatexchanger before use in the furnace. Air from a compressor 1 passes through a heatexchanger 6 and combustion chamber 2 to a gas turbine 3, the exhaust from which passes through the heat-exchanger 6 to a train-heating boiler where it is used as combustion air for the fuel injected at 9. Excess gas may be passed through a pipe 7 to be used for heating purposes. A fan 10 which, during running, supplies cooling air to the compressor and the motors of the locomotive, is used, when the gas turbine plant is at rest, to supply air to the combustion chamber 5 of the heating plant.
