Abstract
613,392. Gas turbine plants. HALLOWELL, E. June 20, 1946, No. 18517. [Class 110 (iii)] Working fluid circulating in a closed path passes from a compressor 2 to a jacket 19 surrounding the resonating tube 10 of a generator of the type described in Specification 574,554, is heated in the jacket and is mixed with the gases from the tube 10 in a chamber 15. The mixture is used in a high-pressure turbine 1, the part of the turbine exhaust which remains in the circuit goes through a heat-exchanger 18 and gives up heat to the air in the pipe 16 delivered by the compressor 2 and the surplus from the turbine exhaust is used in a low-pressure turbine 5 which exhausts to atmosphere. The turbine 5 drives a compressor 6 which supplies low-pressure air to the generating tube 10. The plant is regulated by varying the fuel supplied to the admission chamber 9. Fuel may also be injected directly into the tube 10 by means of a reciprocating pump in synchronism with the oscillations in the tube. The jacket 19 may be used for interstage reheating.
