Abstract
628,437. Cooling furnace charges. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 3, 1947, No. 26677. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1946. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a plant in which a solid material is subjected to cooling by a gas passing through it the heat so extracted being given up in a heat exchanger the cross-sectional area of the cooling chamber in a plane normal to the direction of flow of the cooling gas is at least 10 times but not more than 25 times as great as the cross-sectional area of the cooling gas passages of the heat exchanger in a plane normal to the direction of flow of the gas. In the coke cooling plant shown the coke in chamber 1 is cooled by a gas introduced via the pipe 7, the hot gas passing from the chamber to tubes 14 in boiler 11 through duct 9 in which is arranged a steam superheater 9a the gas being returned to the cooling chamber by the pipe 12. The superheater can be bypassed using a damper 13 the hot cooling gas flowing directly to the boiler via duct 10. The cross-sectional area of the chamber 1 is at least 10 and not more than 25 times the total area of the tubes 14. In a modification the coke is taken in a skip mounted on a truck to the cooling chamber.
