Abstract

272,623. Gilmour, J. D. March 20, 1926. Exhaust, treating.-The exhaust back pressure in an engine is reduced by means of a steam ejector or pump arranged in the exhaust pipe. The steam is passed to a heat-exchanger b of the calandria type, and the steam generated therefrom is used in heating apparatus d in a laundry, dye or chemical works, &c. A reducing valve h enables pressures above atmospheric to be used. The steam condensed in the heat exchanger may be used as boiler-feed water. The exhaust steam from the apparatus d may also be used in a heatexchanger, and the steam from valve h may be used in a calorifere, or drier. Fluid-pressure control means may be provided on the exchanger b to control the supply of steam to the ejector or pump.
