Abstract
289,628. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). April 19, 1927. Feedwater, supplying.-To remove gases from boiler feedwater, it is first heated in a vessel 14 vented to the atmosphere, then passed into a closed vessel and boiled by reduction of pressure, and finally passed over an oxidizable material, such as pieces of iron or steel, in a chamber 25. The feedwater flows over a number of perforated trays 18 in the vessel 14 and is heated by steam admitted through a pipe 17. To create a vacuum in the vessel 20, the vessel may be connected by a pipe 34 fitted with a throttle valve 35 to the main condenser, or it may be connected by a pipe 37 to an auxiliary condenser 36. which is cooled by the cold feedwater. The feedwater may pass through a filter 24 on its way to the chamber 25. The feed pump 26 delivers the water through a feed heater 5, or through a pipe 27 directly into the boiler.
