Cam-actuated pumps; singleacting piston pumps; materials, special; regulating by opening by-passes.-In a high pressure, oil pump, the portion of the oil carrying air or gas collects iu the upper part of the pump chamber F<2>, so that during the first portion of the delivery stroke the gas-free oil is discharged through the delivery valve I' and during the latter portion the gas-laden oil is discharged through a by-pass valve J', the opening of which is controlled by an eccentric C<4> on the shaft C through linkwork D, K, K<1> - - K<5> and a rod J<3>. The time of opening of the valve J<1> is controlled by a wedge L<1> slidable between the hands K<2>, K<4> and controlled by the governor &c. The pump body F may, as in Specification 268,122, be made of material impervious to oil, such as steel, and is provided with a liner F<1> of material pervious to oil, such as cast iron, in which a steel plunger G is reciprocated by a cam C'.
