680,635. Reciprocating pumps. AEROPARTS ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 3, 1950 [Nov. 3, 1949], No. 28139/49. Class 102 (i). In a pump for grease, &c. the lower end of the cylinder 1 has slots 2 surrounding a dome 10 and the piston 3 has a skirt formed with a cutting edge 9 so that as the piston descends, the edge 9 cuts the grease and when the dome 10 enters the chamber 8 in the piston, the grease is forced through the valve 6. This pump may be used as a low-pressure pump or may be combined with a high-pressure pump which is removable. The highpressure pump cylinder 32 is attached to the cover 12 of the grease container and the piston 33 is in the form of a sleeve that surrounds the rod 28 which is attached to the pump rod 4 by a coupling 29 and to the piston rod 21. The end of the piston rod 21 that engages the sleeve 33 on the downward stroke has slots 39 to permit the flow of grease to the outlet 17 on the downward stroke of the piston and the coupling 29 has a collar 30 that limits the upward stroke. A valve 38 is fitted to the inlet end of the cylinder and has a fluid-tight fit on the rod 4. The cylinder 32 has a port 40 which is uncovered when the piston 33 is at the lower end of its stroke, to release the pressure in the delivery line. The piston rod is connected to a member 25 which is also connected to the link 24; the operating handle 22 may be attached to either end of the member 25. The handle may be arranged to telescope through the member 25 when it may be used for transporting the apparatus.
