Abstract
270,505. Threlfall, R. June 4, 1926. Carton.-Charcoal, such as wood or peat charcoal is activated by treating it with sulphur, or a gas which will yield sulphur, at a high temperature. The active carbon may be freed from sulphur by treating it in an atmosphere free from suphur e.g. hydrogen. It may be treated with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid or mixtures thereof with hydrofluoric acid, and then washed with water and dried. The process which also yields carbon bisulphide may be continuous.
