Abstract

Sulphur and revivified gas-purification material are obtained free from contamination by tar by treating the material first with solvents, such as benzol, toluol or heavy benzol, which, in the cold or at moderate temperatures, dissolve the tar and not the sulphur. The material is then extracted to remove the sulphur with the solvents mentioned under pressure and heated above their boiling points, or with other heated inorganic or organic solvents, such as ammonium sulphide, carbon bisulphide or tetraline, at normal pressure.
