Abstract

304,145. Gewerkschaft M. Stinnes. Jan. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Condensing, scrubbing, and washing processes ; materials for purifying.-Coal gas compressed for distribution over long distances is charged with the vapours of a washing oil absorbent of naphthalene after the usual preliminary purification and is then directly cooled before distribution so as to effect condensation of the vapours as a rain which washes the whole of the naphthalene out of the gas. The gas is freed from tar, ammonia, benzene and sulphuretted hydrogen, compressed and while still hot owing to compression is charged with solvent naphtha, tar washing oil or the like, especially high boiling oils. The gas is then cooled to remove the heat of compression and condense the washing agent which dissolves the naphthalene and any remaining traces of benzene. Water vapour is also condensed at this stage. The washing oil is freed from naphthalene as by steam distillation and used again. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also an example of compression to 30 atmospheres. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
