Abstract
360,720. Gas - washing process. MELCHES, H., 153, Bredeneyerstrasse, Bredeney, Essen, Germany. Dec. 16, 1930, No. 37951. [Class 55 (ii).] In a process for obtaining light benzol from distillation gases, the latter freed from naphthalene and phenol by spraying with water are treated with a quantity of washing oil exceeding the usual quantity by at least one third, so that heavy benzols are washed from the gases, the light benzol going with them. The quantity of oil used is such that not more than 1À6 per cent of benzols are extracted and the viscosity of the oil does not exceed 2‹ Engler at 20‹ C. The enriched washing oil, after preheating to 150‹ C., is treated with steam in a separator. In an example, a coal distillation gas containing 12700 grains of light benzol per 1000 cubic feet of gas is washed with 12À4 gallons of washing oil, which allows for a benzol enrichment of 16 per cent.
