317,780. Gewerkschaft M. Stinnes. Aug. 22, 1928, [Convention date]. Washing processes; materials for purifying.- In freeing coal gas from naphthalene after the usual washing with benzene by treatment with an oil solvent for naphthalene and then cooling, the gas is finally washed with an oil of high boiling point free from naphthalene in order to obtain remaining benzene and other vapours. The oil after absorption of such vapours is used in the earlier stage as a solvent for naphthalene, e.g. mixed with 20 per cent of an oil of lower boiling point and under 5 atmospheres of pressure. This oil is freed from naphthalene by passing through it a gas preferably free from oxygen, e.g. furnace gases at a higher temperature. Specifications 305,545 and 311,326 are referred to.
