Abstract

In the process of the parent Specification for recovering ethyelne oxide by adsorption in active carbon, and its drying to a definite degree by means of hot air or inert gas after each flushing to remove adsorbed ethylene oxide, the carbon when exhausted is treated with hot or boiling water or a suitable watermiscible solvent, such as ethyl, isopropyl or propyl alcohols, or a mixture of such solvent and water for a substantial period of time, e.g. 30 minutes or more in order to reactivate it, whereupon it is dried for further use. According to an example, such exhausted carbon was revivified by treatment for 24 hours immersed in water at 90 DEG C.ALSO:In the process described in the parent Specification for recovering ethylene oxide by adsorption in active carbon, and its drying to a definite degree by means of hot air or inert gas after each flushing to remove adsorbed ethylene oxide, the carbon when exhausted is treated with hot or boiling water or a water-miscible solvent, e.g. ethyl, propyl or isopropyl alcohols, or a mixture of such solvent and water for a substantial period of time, e.g. 30 minutes or more in order to reactivate it, whereupon it is dried for further use. According to an example, such exhausted carbon was revivified by treatment for 24 hours immersed in water at 90 DEG C.
