Abstract

262,455. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 4, 1925, [Convention date]. Hydrogen. - The hydrogen obtained after removal of phosphoric oxide or acid from the products of the interaction of phosphorus and steam is freed from residual phosphorus vapour and phospheretted hydrogen &c. by passage over active porous substances such as active carbon and silica gel. The adsorbed phosphorus and phosphorus compounds are then oxidized by means of air or other agent containing oxygen and the resulting oxide or acids of phosphorus removed by washing with water or acid. The adsorption and oxidation, which may be effected simultaneously, are preferably conducted at elevated temperature without previous cooling of the gases in order to avoid precipitation of a difficultly-condensable fume. After washing, the active porous substance is dried, if necessary, and re-used. The presence of adequate moisture is advisable during the oxidation in order to facilitate the fixation of the phosphoric acid.
