Abstract
282,508. Carpmael, W., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 27, 1926, Sulphur.-In the oxidation of sulphuretted hydrogen present in industrial gases to sulphur in the presence of active carbon, silica gel or other adsorbent, the humidity of the gases is maintained at about 80 per cent saturation or above until the reaction is complete. According to one example illuminating gas, after the usual ammonia washing step, is passed through active carbon which is maintained at 20‹ C. whereby the humidity is prevented from falling due to the heat liberated during the reaction. In a second example the gases are passed through active carbon containing water, and in a third, water vapour is introduced into the gases in order to produce a humidity of at least 80 per cent. Specification 193,575, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], is referred to.
