Abstract
330,265. Acetex Safety Glass, Ltd., and Johnston, W. March 4, 1929. Compound transparent sheets.-In the manufacture of compound glass sheets comprising a sheet of cellulose derivative, such as cellulose acetate, mounted between sheets of glass, the cellulose derivative sheet is moistened with a plasticizer or solvent of high boiling point, and the sheets are first pressed together by an inert gas which has access to the entire surfaces and edges of the sheets, and then subjected to pressure under similar conditions by steam at a temperature less than the boiling point of the plasticizer or solvent. Preferably, the cellulose derivative sheet is immersed in a bath of triacetin, then interposed between the glass sheets, and the compound sheet first pressed between rubberfaced rollers. The compound sheet is then placed in an autoclave and pressed by air at about 50 lbs. per square inch pressure for 15 minutes. After slight relaxation of the air pressure, steam at the same pressure is admitted for a further period of 15 minutes. Specification 328,919 is referred to.
