Abstract
333,242. Newton, J. Feb. 8, 1929. Compound transparent sheets. - Compound transparencies of glass and celluloid, cellulose acetate or the like, of larger dimensions than available celluloid &c. sheets, are made by using two or more of such sheets, joined at their edges in the same plane, and cementing same between two glass sheets of approximately their combined area by any known method. The edges of the celluloid sheets, preferably chamfered, are treated for five to ten minutes with a plasticizer or solvent, such as a mixture of 80 per cent alcohol and 20 per cent amylacetate. They are then joined and pressed in the usual manner between glass sheets warmed to 150‹ to 200‹ F. On removal from the press, the compound sheet is maintained at 80‹ to 90‹ F. for 24 to 48 hours, and is then placed in a (freezing chamber to complete the process. The compound sheets are suitable for show cases, shop fronts, &c.
