508,829. Utilizing waste rubber. SOC. HYDRO-ELECTRIQUE & INDUSTRIELLE DU MORVAN. Oct. 21, 1938, No. 30515. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1937. [Class 70] In regenerating waste rubber by heating it in a chamber round which a heating medium is circulated and into which steam at about atmosphere pressure is passed steam under pressure is used as the heating medium and a portion is reduced in pressure for supply to the interior of the chamber. Steam at about 170‹ C. and 10 kg. pressure supplied by a pipe 6 is passed through a pipe 7 to the jacket of a chamber 1 containing rubber, preferably finely - ground, and through a second pipe 8 containing a pressure-reducing valve 13 into the interior of the chamber which is maintained at about atmospheric pressure by an escape pipe 4. After the treatment the rubber is cooled by water passed through the jacket or sprinkled over the rubber. If the rubber be heated to 200‹ C. cotton contained in the scrap is carbonized.
