Abstract

Stripping rubber from tyres, processes for. - Separation of the materials used in solid rubber band tyres, or like rubber articles, is effected under the combined influence of solvent, heat, and moisture. For stripping a solid tyre, a section of the rubber body (with or without the vulcanite base portion) is removed to enable a knife or blunt-edged tool to be inserted. The tyre and tool are then immersed in the boiling solvent, or enclosed in a steam chamber, for the necessary time to permit the stripping to be effected by circumferential movement between the tyre and tool. The water used may be rendered alkaline by the addition of soda, which is stated to minimize oxidation of the steel foundation band and to act as a lubricant for the tool.
