Abstract
Ammonium thiosulphate and colloidal sulphur are produced by the interaction of sulphur dioxide with ammonium polysulphide solution, the temperature being kept as far below 60 DEG C. as is economical. The solution may be treated with the gas by passing it down a tower up which the gas passes, by spraying it into a chamber containing the gas or, in accordance with an example by passing the gas into a vessel containing the solution and provided with revolving beaters. When the reaction is operated slowly or on a laboratory scale, temperatures up to 70 DEG C. may be used.
