Abstract

Paraffin wax is freed from oil and soft wax by treating with steam the freed wax while exhibiting a large surface. For example, the freed wax may be sprayed through a current of saturated or superheated steam having a temperature of 130-160-200 DEG C.; or 4 kg. per hr. of wax at 100 DEG C. may trickle down a tower filled with Raschig rings or the like against 6 kg. per hr. of steam at 150 DEG C. The wax may be further refined by sulphuric acid or adsorbents e.g. charcoal or bleaching earths.
