Abstract

Variable-speed gearing comprises a loose-running intermediate disc B supported horizontally in the bottom of a gear-case A and provided with a number of rings of conical gear teeth D, E, F. The disc B is constantly driven by a wheel G with peripheral teeth engaging its outer ring of teeth D. A wheel N slidably splined on a driven shaft J may be engaged with the rings of teeth E, F alternatively to produce reduced speeds and reversed driving, a high-speed forward drive being effected by sliding the wheel N into engagement with a clutch face P on the wheel G. An additional intermediate disc similar to the disc B may be mounted in a vertical plane. A main driving disc clutch may be arranged between the wheel G and its shaft I inside the casing A.
