Abstract

258,338. Percival, S., (Ken-Crip Corporation). June 17, 1925. Closure members, hinged and rotary cylindrical.-In a carburettor of the kind comprising a main air passage 2 to which fuel is supplied through a slot in a rotary throttle valve, the throttle valve 3 is of oblate spheroidal shape and is mounted to turn about an axis in the plane of its greatest diameter. The valve 3 is hollow and is provided with an outlet slot 8 for rich mixture which is supplied to the interior of the valve through orifices 9 in the valve spindle 6, the air being supplied through the passage 6<1> and the fuel through an inlet 29. To control the admission of the fuel, the spindle 6 is formed in two parts 6, 6A, Fig. 7, having at the ends interengaging cups 16, one of which is cut away at 21 to form an inclined edge a, b, c, which coacts with the fuel inlet 29. The cups 16 are pressed apart by a spring 30, and the position of the inclined edge relative to the inlet 29 may be adjusted by a nut 23. The valve 3 is operated by an arm 31, and is so shaped that the amount of air admitted is in direct proportion to the extent of opening of the valve; the proportions of air and fuel are thus kept constant.
