Abstract

256,545. Pearson, C. H. March 2, 1925. Projectile fuzes. - The setting-disc 43 of a clockwork fuze has a bevelled notch 44 engaged by a bevelled catch 66 pivoted on the setting-cap 46. The catch is locked by a spring 68, which yields to the shock of discharge, allowing the catch to swing out of the notch 44; the spring then again locks the catch, preventing its return. The notch 44 also serves for the release of the trigger 70 of the spring-striker mechanism at the appointed time. The setting-cap is secured by screws 59 to a ring 58 in a groove in the fuze body 10, which contains the detonating charge 12 connected by a powder passage 14 to a recess covered by a centrifugal obturator and percussion-cap carrier 22 as described in Specification 254,358.
