Abstract

Smiths' forges; metal-heating furnaces. -An oil-fired forge or forge furnace for smiths' or plumbers' use comprises an upwardly-tapering combustion chamber 2, arranged so that its top is flush with the hearth, and having a contracted mouth, which is slotted to distribute the heat on to the materials. The burner is fitted at one end of the combustion chamber, and at the other end is a slag discharge opening 5. The slots may be formed by shaped bars laid in a recess at the top of the combustion chamber.
