Liquid-fuel furnaces.-An ignition furnace for use with roasting or sintering apparatus is provided with adjustable side walls f so that the exit slit i for the flame may be varied in width to allow the flame to act upon a narrower or wider zone of the charge. The furnace is fired by an oil burner d and openings e<1>, e<2>, e<3> closed by fireclay plugs are provided in the roof for the admission of secondary air.
