Abstract

491,620. Metal - heating furnaces. SMITH, H. C. July 21, 1937, No. 20182. [Class 51 (ii)] A furnace for heating metal work-pieces comprises a chamber a having a perforated work-supporting floor f arranged above flue spaces j in communication with a chimney stack o, a feed opening b in the roof, a front opening d through which the heated work is removed, and a gas or oil burner p adjacent the opening d. As shown, the burner is arranged to deliver on to an imperforate portion e of the furnace floor. The part f of the floor is preferably inclined and the contact area between it and the work-pieces may be reduced by countersinking the perforations, or by ridging the surface.
