Abstract

Detachable-rim attachments to wheels. - A detachable rim is locked against circumferential and lateral movement by a device which also operates to move the detachable rim laterally on to or off the felloe during the circumferential movement of the rim. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a boss 28 on the detachable rim 8 is adapted to engage between inclined ribs 25 on a plate 9 which is adjusted transversely of the felloe, 1 by a bolt 12 threaded through a lug 21 on the plate. The inner flange of the felloe 1 is formed with a continuous coned seat 7 for the detachable rim which carries lugs 10 adapted to ride up taper surfaces on the edge 6 of the outer flange. The lugs 10 are entered through gaps in the outer edge of the felloe, the circumferential wedging movement being effected by the bolt 12. The felloe 1 may be formed integrally with a wheel disc. In the modification shown in Figs. 9 and 10, the actuating plate 109 is formed with an oblique groove 110 engaged by a pin 112 on the detachable rim 105. The base of the plate is formed with an oppositely inclined groove to engage a pin 118 on the felloe so as to amplify the movement of the detachable rim when the plate is adjusted by the bolt 114. The detachable rim also carries a pin 120 which abuts against the flange 106 of the felloe when the parts are assembled for use, Fig. 9. The end 111 of the groove 110 is upwardly tapered so that an outward radial thrust is set up in the detachable rim during assemblage. The inner edge of the detachable rim is fitted with lugs 108, Fig. 14, projecting from a flange 107 to engage behind the flange 106 of the felloe. In a further modification, pairs of blocks on the base portions of the detachable and fixed rime are formed with complementary tapered and bevelled edges adapted to interengage during assemblage,
