Detachable - rim attachments to wheels; tyre attachments to rim.-A detachable rim A is formed of segments a, a<1>, a<2> which can be separately placed in position on the tyre. The inner surfaces a<3> of the segments are inclined to correspond with an inclined surface b of the body part B of the wheel so that as the segments move up the incline they are forced radially outwards against the pressure of the tyre. A lug c is riveted to the centre of each rim segment, and pieces c<1> bear on lugs c<2> at the segment ends so that by screwing up nuts d on screwbolts D passing through the part B and the lugs c and pieces c<1>, the segments are forced up the inclines b. To prevent creeping, a projection c<3> on each lug c fits a slot b<1> in the body B of the wheel. In alternative constructions each segment has a flanged piece riveted to it, the inner surface of the flanged piece fitting the inclined part b on the body of the wheel. Screw bolts pass through the body part and the flanged pieces so that by screwing up the nuts d the segments are forced up the incline. In wooden spoke wheels a metal ring is secured to the wooden periphery of the wheel and inclined to fit against the flanged pieces on rhe rim. In rims carrying solid tyres, each segment a has a shoulder forming an abutment for a ring which, when the nuts d are tightened up, forces the rim A and the tyre on to the body part.
