Abstract
238,526. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Aug. 16, 1924, [Convention date]. Railway locomotives, steam turbine. - The ahead turbine A and the reversing turbines B are mounted on separate shafts a<1>, b<1> connected by disconnectible couplings a<2>, b<2> to pinions a<3>, b<3> both gearing with a wheel c<1> on a shaft C geared to a lay-shaft F coupled to the driving wheels. The couplings a<2>, b<2> permit each turbine to be independently removed, and may be ordinary flange couplings as shown, or the reversing turbine may be coupled to its pinion by a clutch disconnectible during working so that this turbine is idle during forward running. In a modification the shaft-extension of the forward turbine is connected only at its free end to the pinion a<3> so that the shaft can yield or twist during running.
