Abstract
181,325. Aktiebolaget Ljungstr÷ms Angturbin. June 4, 1921, (Convention date]. Railway locomotives, turbine.-Relates to turbine plant provided with toothed gearing and particularly adapted for driving locomotives. To obviate the use of long torsion shafts and at the same time to secure a uniform tooth pressure, the shafts 4 carrying the pinions and connected by flexible couplings 3, 3<a>, 3<b> to the shaft 2 of the turbine 1 are journaled in flexibly mounted casings 5 as described in Specification 143,517, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.]. These casings are mounted on ball bearings 6 placed within a hollow intermediate shaft 7 carrying the pinions 8, which are housed in a casing 12 arranged between the casings 5, and mesh with the wheels 9 on the shaft 10 carrying cranks 11 for driving the locomotive, the shaft 10 being journaled in the gear casing 12. For reverse running, additional toothed wheels are mounted in the casing 12, the arrangement described in Specification 128,206, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt, &c.], being preferably adopted. With a turbine of the oppositely-running rotor type, reversing gears are placed in the casings 5. The flexible couplings 3, 3<a>, 3<b> may be constructed as described in Specification 149,693, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt, &c.]. Specification 6699/13, [Class 110 (iii), Turbines &c.], also is referred to.
