Driving bogie-wheels and radiating axles.-In locomotives having four driving axles the two axles 8, 9 at each end are mounted in a truck frame 13 pivoted to the main frame 11 on an axis 12 midway between two universal joints 6, 7 in the longitudinal shaft 5 driving the axles. Half the locomotive only is shown, an engine 2 at each end driving the common shaft 5 through change-speed gearing in a casing 4. The shaft 5 drives the axle 8, and the axles 8, 9 are coupled by chains 10 or coupling-rod gear. Specification 232,944 is referred to.
