Abstract
301,584. Cleaver, C. F., and Four Wheel Drive Lorry Co., Ltd. Sept. 24, 1927. Transmission gear between separate axles.- Comprises the combination, in a six-wheeled vehicle, of driving gear for each rear axle consisting of a pair of shafts 8, 4 or 14, 10, connected by chain, spur or other gearing, the one driven by the prime mover and the other driving a rear axle, with a further shaft 15 connected to the shafts 8, 14 by universal joints 16, 17 which are spaced beyond or outside the centre lines of the axles 1, 2. The shaft 15 is thus longer than the distance between the axles, and the angular movement of the universal joints is reduced. The shafts 8, 14 may be arranged above, below, or to one side of the axle.
