Abstract
246,256. Holle, A. A. Nov. 14, 1924. Transmission gear between separate axles.-In a vehicle having eight or more driven road wheels the engine 5 drives a main differential gear 4 driving secondary differential gears 9 from which the power is distributed between corresponding wheel pairs 1, 2 and 8, 8 on each side of the vehicle. The main differential gear is preferably arranged midway between the front and rear axles so that the driving shafts for corresponding front and rear wheels are of the same length, and the longer shafts are made in two parts 3, 3*, the parts 3 being of the same length as the shorter driving shafts 10 so as to be interchangeable with them. If the shafts are enclosed in torque tubes these are made in sections in the same way. Additional pairs of road wheels would be driven from additional secondary differential gears.
