Abstract
328,676. Guy, S. S. Feb. 1, 1929. Driving steering-wheels; wheel-driving attachments.-Relates to vehicles of the kind described in Specification 328,626 having six or more wheels of which two or more pairs are steering wheels and in which one or more of the wheels on each side of the vehicle is or are driven bv a longitudinal shaft or shafts arranged alongside the frame, and comprises means for driving one or more of the steering wheels a at each side of the vehicle by a universally-jointed shaft f extending laterally from the longitudinal shaft b to each wheel to be driven. The longitudinal sha.ft is driven from a transverse shaft d and mav drive the lateral shaft through worm gear b<2>, Fig. 2, or bevel gear f<2>, Fig. 5, and the lateral shaft may drive the wheel either through skew or spur gear f<1>, Fig. 2, or directly through a plate f<5>, Fig. 5, bolted at a<4> to the wheel hub. The inner end of the lateral shaft may be carried by the main frame c as shown in Fig. 5, or may be mounted on the axle g. The universal joint f<3>, or one of them, is in line with the steering pivot.
