Abstract
389,900. Motor-vehicle driving-gear. CROSSLEY MOTORS, Ltd. and WISHART, T. D., Gorton, Manchester. Nov. 5 1931, No. 30672. [Class 79 (ii).] In a six-wheeled vehicle the drive is transmitted from the gear-box a through a cardan shaft b to a point behind the rear axle f, and from this point the two axles f, i are driven by a forwardly-extending shaft having two universal joints m, n. By extending the shaft b to beyond the rear axle a short wheel base may be used without shortening the shaft b so much as to cause universal-joint trouble. In the construction shown the shaft b is provided with three universal joints c, d, e. The shafts b, h are connected by spur gearing enclosed in a casing b<1>. Torque rods o, p are provided between the axle casings j, k.
