Axles and axle structures.-The forward end of the torque-tube 5 enclosing the propeller shaft 4 is carried by a pair of links 12 which are pivoted both to the chassis and to a collar 10 rotatably mounted on the torque tube. The springs 7 are directly connected to the axle casing 8, but may be connected thereto by shackles, when radius-rods would also be employed. One of the links 12 may be rigidly connected to the collar 10, and in this case the torque-tube 5 would be free to slide as well as to rotate in the collar. The propeller shaft 4 is driven through a telescopic universal joint 3 from a flexible coupling 2 of the kind described in Specification 2818/12, [Class 79(ii), Motorvehicles, Driving &c.], this coupling being enclosed by a tube 6 loosely mounted on the boss of the main clutch. Specification 28,337/11 also is referred to.
