Abstract
482,278. Motor rail - vehicles. DREWRY CAR CO., Ltd., and WAKLEY, W. J. Sept. 21, 1936, No. 25642. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] In a motor rail-vehicle, the engine is secured to the main frame and the transmission gearing is carried by a sub-frame swung on the driving axle and resiliently pivoted to a cross member of the main frame at a point near the output end of the prime mover. The bogie truck shown is supported by springs 14, 18 on axles 12, 16, and comprises a rectangular frame 1 with a transverse support 4 for the bogie pivot 7, an internal-combustion engine 25 with a hydraulic coupling 26 being fixed to inner frame longitudinals 9 between the transverse support 4 and the forward end of the frame. The drive is transmitted through a universally jointed shaft 28 to a pre-selector or other change-speed gear 27 and thence through a coupling 30 to a final drive or reverse gear box 31 on the driving axle 16. The sub-frame comprises side bars 21 secured to the gear box 31 and carrying the gear 27 between transverse bracing members 22, 23, the forward bracing member 22 being yieldingly connected to the transverse frame part 4. The connection, shown in Fig. 3, comprises one or more sets of springs 33, 35 above and below a bracket 34 on the part 4, located by bolt or bolts 36 passing through the bracket 34 and a corresponding bracket 32 attached to the sub-frame cross member 22.
