Abstract

471,621. Vehicle spring - suspensions ; arrangement of wheels. MACHRAY, G. July 2, 1936, No. 18350. [Class 108 (ii)] In a road vehicle having a group of four wheels supported in pairs, one on either side of the vehicle, the wheels of each pair are arranged in eschelon one behind the other and are carried on axles which can oscillate about a horizontal transverse axis preferably disposed between the wheel axes. The wheels 2, 3 or 4, 5 of each pair are mounted on axes 6, 7 on either side of a support 9 which is also pivoted to oscillate about a pivot 10 carried by a longitudinal laminated spring 11, the rocking of the support 9 being controlled by a spring 11a or shock-absorber. Each support is provided with an inwardly extending cranked arm 12, the inner end of which is connected by a joint 13 with a bracket mounted on the chassis. The joint 13 includes a longitudinal pivot 15 so that each pair of wheels can oscillate about the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle. Fig. 4 shows means for driving, the shafts 17 connected to the hubs passing through the axles 6a and being driven from the cardan shaft 18 through differential 19, and universal joints 20. The other wheel of each pair is driven from the shaft 17 by chain 22 or other means. Brake levers 23. 24 are provided which may be operated by cable 31 or by hydraulic means 33.
