Abstract

305,340. Austin, Sir H. Dec. 24, 1927. Axle structures.-A torque member E connecting together two driving axle casings A, A' so as to allow relative movement of the axles about the axis of the torque tube forms a casing for a differential gear G driving the axles. The torque member comprises a tube E, E' fixed to one axle casing A, the part E<1> being rotatable in a sleeve L fixed to the other axle casing A<1>. The parts E, L are stayed by rods m, n fixed to their respective axle casings at one end and to the tube E and the sleeve L at their other ends. The frame is connected to the axle casings by semielliptic springs N pivoted to the frame at the centre and having shackles R at their connections with the rear axle A.
