Abstract
201,705. Ellis, G. B., (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.). June 12, 1922. Axle and like distance members, radius - rods, and torque - rods. - A motor vehicle having two front steering wheels and four or more driving wheels arranged in pairs, is provided with equalizing springs and torque-resisting connections between driving axles. The two driving axles for a six wheeled vehicle are shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the axles being driven from the propeller shaft 16, an intermediate propeller shaft 21 being also provided. The axle casings are connected to the frame by two inverted semi-elliptic springs 27 each pivotallv mounted on a transverse shaft 31. On. each side is arranged an inclined radius rod 34 which is connected by universal joints to the top of one axle casing and the bottom of the other, the rod in conjunction with the spring on the same side of the vehicle and one of the axle casings forming a triangular torque resisting member for the casing to the bottom of which the rod is connected. The two radius rods are inclined oppositely so that one resists torque of one axle and the other that of the other axle.
