Abstract

180,383. Lanchester, F. W. Jan. 24, 1921. Springs, arrangement of.-In a spring suspension for power-propelled vehicles, the road-wheel axle, together with its associated parts B, Fig. 1, is connected to the body A of the vehicle by a single ball or universal joint C arranged at a lower level, and one or more pairs of springs or rubber buffers D<1> arranged at a, higher level, the plane containing the joint and the springs being substantially vertical. As applied to a chassis of the usual construction, the joint C, Fig. 3, is located in the driving-shaft, the thrust being taken by thrust-blocks F, G, and the buffers D<1> are interposed between brackets on the side of the chassis and arms H connected to the axle. The buffers D<1> are held in bell-mouthed cups D<2>, D<3>, Fig. 5, chains E<1>, provided with resilient buffers E<4>, preventing their displacement therefrom.
